Strong Body, Strong Mind
I was speaking with a neighbor recently who started running at 35 years of age. She’s in her early 40’s now and looks like a gazelle as she runs down the street. She inspires me.
A friend of mine who is in her mid 50’s does jazzercise 5 times/week. She shared that she loves it more for what it does for her mood than anything else.
I personally have always loved weight training. When my body feels strong, my mind feels strong. Even when I go through a patch of being off my game and not working out regularly, the minute I step into the gym I feel so much better.
Feeling strong comes from within. When you move your body and increase your muscle strength the result is:
- Stable blood sugar and insulin levels
- An increase of feel good hormones and neurotransmitters such as endorphins, serotonin, dopamine, glutamate and GABA
- An increase in your brains ability to adapt & grow new brain cells
So find something or someone that inspires you and make a commitment to challenge your body physically. Afterward take a breath and ask yourself, how does that make me feel?
Feel that strong body and strong mind and do it all over again.
